Battling with terrible '80s hiphop fashion, Rhyme And Reason grew from the
ashes of the Take II Crew. Me and Maestro had been together as Take II for
about 18 months. We did gigs in London, the National Rapping Championships
in Birmingham and the peak of our career, an interview and 10 minute feature
on Radio Northampton !
Maestro met KLA at college and he supported us at a
gig at Booth Lane College, back when it had the Arts Centre out the back. We
wrote a posse cut with all three of us (actually I doubt that's enough
people to technically qualify as a "posse") called
"We Three Kings" and as a
result of that, we decided to hook up and become Rhyme And Reason (Mid '87 I
think).
As a three man line-up, we recorded a couple of demos, but after a few
months RAR became a duo. It was an amicable split - they kicked me out and
booked a gig without telling me and I didn't mind ! Seriously, it kind of
made sense at the time as I was really getting into metal and not listening
to much hiphop at time so no grudges held. They went on to hook up with
producer "Evil" Ed Richards and recorded a remix of "Make It Mine" for The
Shamen, which appeared on the "En Tact" album. Might be coincidence, but Mr.
C's rapping started to sound very much like RAR after that.
KLA went on tour with The Shamen for awhile, left and then formed Blueboy,
who made a good record ("Remember Me" - that was number one ! ) out of a
great record (Marlena Shaw's "Woman Of The Ghetto"). Maestro started games
design and did the battles for the Warhammer PC games.
